Getaway Makes an Escape to the Outdoors Easy, Fun, and Accessible to All, No Camping Experience Required
Sure, a camping trip is great – what better way to escape the hustle and bustle and noise and deadlines and emails and errands and your annoying neighbor Allen and more email and such – than by getting out into the woods or the hills for a real break? But let’s be honest: packing for a camping trip can take hours on end, as can unpacking afterward. And if you don’t have all the gear you need for a campout, it can be pretty expensive to get supplied up and ready.
Ah, but what if there was a way you could simply toss some clothing, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and a few good books in a bag and call yourself packed and ready for a woodland escape? As you probably guessed, you can when you book a stay at a Getaway cabin, because these thoughtfully appointed properties have everything you need to stay safe and warm, to sleep well, to cook, to bathe, and to enjoy yourself, and they are set afar afield in beautiful wilderness settings.
At the time of this writing, there are Getaway campgrounds in about 30 locations. They are primarily spread across the East Coast and the Midwest, though Texas and the South are getting some spots, as are a few West Coast regions, like SoCal and the PNW. So if you don’t spot a Getaway property near you right now, check back soon – these guys are growing, and with good reason, too: they make something awesome – getting out in nature, e.g. – easy. And that’s awesome.
Now, to be clear, a stay at a Getaway “house,” as these compact cabin trailers are sometimes called, is not quite glamping. Glamping implies an excessive level of attention paid to every detail of comfort and luxury – it’s a “more than you need” experience. Here, you have everything you need and really not a thing more, and that’s perfect. Because what you get thanks to the thoughtful but not overwrought design and amenities of a Getaway cabin is a chance to reset, relax, and refocus without anything to disturb or crowd the experience.
A standard Getaway cabin features a comfortable queen sized bed, pillows, and linens – some have queen bunk beds, and we slept in such a cabin with a family of four for two nights just fine, for the record. You’ll get a small kitchen with a sink, a two-burner stove, basic pots, pans, plates, bowls, and utensils. And, of course, a coffee pot. The bathroom has a flush toilet, a small but hot shower, towels, soap, and shampoo and conditioner. There are outlets, a bit of storage space, a table with bench seats, and there’s always a huge window with a great view.
Outside your cabin you will find a pair of Adirondack-style chairs, a picnic table, a fire pit (where permitted), and… what’s that other thing? Ah, yes: the wilderness. All Getaway sites are set far enough from civilization (if you will) to create a genuine wilderness experience without the noise of the city or streets and without all the visual (and odorous) distractions, either. Whether you go for a hike, read a book, or just sit there for an hour staring at the trees, the fire, or the sky, you’ll be doing it right.
