The outdoor element firebiner

a Compact Multitool that Belongs On Your Person at All Times, Especially When You Might Need to Make a Fire

Once you start carrying a Swiss Army Knife around regularly, you’ll feel underprepared every time you leave it behind. It’s just so handy to have the ability to snip, slice, open, saw, screw, and so forth at all times. And once you start carrying a Firebiner from Outdoor Element around regularly, you’ll have two pocket-sized pieces of hardware you never want to be without.

Of course, in the case of the Firebiner, it really belongs clipped onto a belt loop, keychain, or backpack strap – it is a carabiner, after all. And one rated to support up to 100 pounds, at that. But being a plucky little carabiner is hardly what makes the Outdoor Element Firebiner an exceptional piece of gear. We’ll get to that last, because we’re just the worst.

Beyond being a carabiner, this little multitool also has a screwdriver tip, a bottle opener, and recessed little utility blade that’s perfect for cutting cords, fishing line, or slicing through fabrics. The Firebiner also has a couple of “hang slots” punched into it through which a key ring can be passed, making it easy to connect other hardware.

But it’s the fire part that’s the major player here. The Firebiner has, built into its base, a little spark wheel that’s pressed up against a (replaceable) ferro rod, and when you give that wheel a spin, the Firebiner emits a shower of sparks that can light up a camp stove, catch a bed of prepared kindling, or help out in various other capacities where you need a spark to get you a flame.

It’s an affordable piece of everyday and/or camping hardware that will prove convenient and might prove a lifesaver, as well – and that’s the kind of outdoor product that we at Dad Gear Review can get behind.
